Description

Spicy homemade ginger shots that cost less than the store-bought stuff and taste so much better. Better yet, you don’t need a fancy juicer to make this recipe!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 oz or 110g fresh ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric or 1 oz fresh turmeric*
  • 2 medium lemons, juiced (55g juice)
  • 1 ½ cups (12 oz or 345g) coconut water
  • 1 tbsp (20g) honey or maple syrup (add more as needed)
  • 1/4 tsp celtic sea salt
  • Pinch of black pepper

Instructions

  1. See note below before you make these!
  2. Prep the ginger and lemon. I very rarely peel the ginger, just give it a thorough wash before using. Everything is going to get strained anyway, so it’s kind of a waste of time.
  3. Blend the shots. Add the ginger, turmeric, lemon juice, coconut water, honey, sea salt, and black pepper into a high-speed blender. Blend on low, slowly ramping up the speed to medium-high. Blend for a total of 2 minutes.
  4. Strain and store. Place a nut milk bag or fine mesh sieve over a bowl or wide-mouth jar, and strain the ginger shots into the bowl. Pour the ginger shots into a glass jar and store it in the fridge for up to 1 week. And for those curious, 2 oz is a serving size.

Notes

*I prefer making these ginger shots with ground turmeric, simply because fresh turmeric stains so quickly. Ground turmeric tends to not stain things as much as the fresh stuff and it works equally well.
