Why spend $18 on a pack of just six ginger shots, when you can easily make homemade ginger shots for a fraction of the cost, and with better ingredients? Plus, you don’t need a fancy juicer to make these ginger lemon shots – this recipe uses a blender.
Now a quick forewarning that these shots are quite spicy, which is how I like it. It’s like fire going down your throat but in a good way. However, if you want your shots on the milder side, I’ve included notes to adjust the recipe accordingly. You can jump to that portion of the blog post here.
Ingredients For These Homemade Ginger Shots
You need just five ingredients (six if you count salt as an ingredient) to make these ginger immunity shots.
- Ginger: Duh!
- Lemons
- Coconut water: I love Harmless Harvest coconut water.
- Turmeric: You can use fresh or powdered turmeric.
- Honey
- Black pepper
- Kosher salt
Equipment You’ll Need
While you might not need a fancy juicer to make these homemade ginger shots, you need a high-speed blender (I used my Vitamix) and a nut milk bag. And before you ask, yes, you can make these shots in a NutriBullet or a Beast Blender if you like.
Adjusting The ‘Spice’ Level
Ok, so if you want to adjust how spicy these shots are and make them milder, here’s the breakdown. Regardless of any adjustments you make, this recipe is super forgiving, and unlike baking, you can swap things in, make substitutions, or even leave out ingredients, and it won’t alter the final recipe that much.
- Use 3 oz of fresh ginger instead of the 4 oz called for.
- Add extra honey or maple syrup.
- Taper the shots by mixing your shot with equal parts coconut water – it’ll make it taste like sweet ginger juice.
If you’re looking for more immune-boosting juices, you’ve got to try out this immunity juice!

Description
Spicy homemade ginger shots that cost less than the store-bought stuff and taste so much better. Better yet, you don’t need a fancy juicer to make this recipe!
Ingredients
- 4 oz fresh ginger
- 1 oz fresh turmeric (or 1/2 tsp ground turmeric)
- 2 medium lemons, juiced
- 1 1/2 cups coconut water
- 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup (add more as needed)
- 1/4 tsp celtic sea salt
- Pinch of black pepper
Instructions
- See note below before you make these!
- Prep the ginger and lemon. I very rarely peel the ginger, just give it a thorough wash before using. Everything is going to get strained anyway, so it’s kind of a waste of time.
- Blend the shots. Add the ginger, turmeric, lemon juice, coconut water, honey, sea salt, and black pepper into a high-speed blender. Blend on low, slowly ramping up the speed to medium-high. Blend for a total of 2 minutes.
- Strain and store. Place a nut milk bag or fine mesh sieve over a bowl or wide-mouth jar, and strain the ginger shots into the bowl. Pour the ginger shots into a glass jar and store it in the fridge for up to 1 week. And for those curious, 2 oz is a serving size.
Notes
Quick note, wash your blender IMMEDIATELY after making these shots and use a nut milk bag you don’t care about – the turmeric will stain things and it’s almost impossible to get out. That said, ground turmeric tends not stain things as much (or ast least it’s easier to get out), so use that instead of fresh turmeric if you’re worried.
