Say goodbye to overpriced green smoothies, because this creamy green smoothie has tons of benefits and actually tastes good. Yeah, it genuinely tastes amazing!
This easy green smoothie recipe uses staple pantry ingredients and whips up in under 5 minutes (well 10 minutes because you do need to get out all the ingredients).
It’s sweet, thick, creamy, and the most beautiful green color ever!
Green Smoothie Ingredients
Here’s everything you’ll need to make this glowing green smoothie.
- Frozen bananas: Tip, freeze your bananas when they’re super spotty; this is when they’ll be sweetest and have the highest amount of antioxidants.
- Spinach
- Hemp seeds
- Medjool dates
- Spirulina: Linking the spirulina I use here; both Whole Foods and Sprouts carry this brand.
- Cashew milk: Linking my cashew milk recipe here, it’s so freakin good.
- Kosher salt
Tips for the Perfect Smoothie
- Don’t use any more milk than called for. It’ll make the smoothie super thin and runny. Speaking of milk, make sure to use a creamy milk like almond or cashew milk for best results. Oh, and use cold milk, otherwise, it’ll melt your smoothie!
- Let the ingredients thaw instead of adding more liquid. If you feel like your smoothie needs extra milk to blend better, let the ingredients sit in the blender instead. I’d recommend letting them sit for 5 minutes; this should be enough to soften the frozen bananas.
- Blend the smoothie for 2-3 minutes. One thing I hate about green smoothies is there are always chunks of spinach. The key is to blend your smoothie for at least 2 minutes, max 3, to get that smooth texture and vibrant green color!
Green Smoothie Benefits
By now I’m sure you know I’m fully against counting calories and tracking macros. However, I do love highlighting ingredient benefits; simply to show just how nutritious this everyday green smoothie is.
- 10g of fiber
- 15g of protein (without using any protein powder)
- 26% RDI iron (while this is non-heme iron, the Vitamin C from the bananas and date ensure your body can easily absorb the iron)
- Along with a significant source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Calcium, Folate, Potassium, and Zinc.
Even More Healthy Smoothie Recipes
If you like this vegan green smoothie, you have to try out this thick and creamy acai bowl. Or if you want something more indulgent, make this dark chocolate smoothie; it’s like a milkshake but secretly super healthy and nutritious.
