Frequently Asked Questions
- Homemade almond milk vs. store bought? Store-bought almond milk is packed with additives, cane sugar, oil (why?) and other preservatives that aren’t good for your gut health or overall physical health. Homemade almond milk on the other hand has just 3 ingredients, all of which are whole-foods and super beneficial for you! So without a doubt, homemade almond milk beats the grocery stuff any day! I do get that it’s convenient that buy it at the store, and there are a few brands that use simple ingredients. Both Elmhurst and Malk are great options if you want to buy nut milk from the store!
- What is the shelf life of homemade almond milk? Most homemade almond milk will last up to 5 days in the fridge. Any longer than that and the milk starts to ferment.
- Benefits of homemade almond milk? Homemade almond milk is packed with benefits, thanks to the…well thanks to the almonds lol. Almonds are a great source of protein, healthy fats and vitamin E. Several studies have linked Vitamin E intake with lower risk of heart disease, cancer and Alzheimers. Almonds are also a great source of healthy fats, manganese and magnesium, which are all great for reducing blood pressure levels.
- Can you freeze homemade almond milk? Since almond milk doesn’t last long in the fridge, you might be wondering if you can freeze it. And the answer is yes! There are no negative effects on flavor or texture if you freeze the almond milk and thaw it out later on. Although I will say it tastes best fresh!
- Do I need to soak the almonds overnight? Totally depends on the blender you’re using. If you have a Vitamix or a blender you don’t need to soak the almonds overnight. However, if you’re using any other type of blender, I recommend soaking the almonds overnight so it’s easier for your blender!
- Do I need to use a nut bag to strain the almond milk? While I highly recommend using a nut milk bag, you can use a sieve. That said, you may have to strain the almond milk through the sieve two-three times to make sure there are no remaining tiny almond pieces.

Notes
*If you have a low-powered blender, I recommend soaking the almonds overnight so it’s easier to blend. I used my Vitamix for this which is great for making nut milks!
Feel free to add in 1 medjool date or 1 tbsp of maple syrup to add a touch of sweetness to this almond milk if you prefer.
