Description
I know that it’s subjective, but this homemade guacamole truly is the best! It’s easy to make and addictingly good!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/4 medium red onion, finely diced (about 1/4 cup)
- 2 jalapeno peppers, de-seeded and finely diced
- 2 cloves. garlic, finely minced
- 3 tbsp lime juice
- 1 tsp kosher salt, plus more as needed
- 3 medium ripe Hass avocados, halved and pitted
- 1/4 cup firmly packed chopped cilantro
- Tortilla chips for serving
Instructions
- Macerate the aromatics. In a large bowl, add the diced onion, jalapeno peppers, minced garlic, lime juice, and salt. Mix well together and then set aside to macerate for 10 minutes – this process helps release even more flavor and juice from the aromatics and concentrates their flavor.
- Prep the avocados and cilantro. While the aromatics sit, pit and peel the avocados, and mince the cilantro.
- Mash everything together. Add the avocados and chopped cilantro into the bowl of aromatics, and use a fork or potato masher to mash the avocado until you get the consistency you prefer for your guacamole. Stir and adjust for salt and lime juice.
- Serve the guacamole with tortilla chips – I love my homemade tortilla chips. Or use it as a topping for tacos, burrito bowls and more.
- Store any leftover guacamole in an airtight glass jar in the fridge for up to one day. Although it does taste best the same day!! To keep the guacamole from turning brown, I like to squeeze over a bit of lime juice (essentially sealing the guacamole with acid) which prevents oxidation.
