I know that it’s subjective, but this homemade guacamole truly is the best!
It’s a combo of mashed avocados (duh), along with tons of aromatics like onion, garlic, jalapeno, and lime juice. It’s easy to make and addictingly good!
This easy guacamole recipe comes together in one bowl and takes just under 15 minutes from start to finish.
Ingredients For This Homemade Guacamole
Here’s everything you’ll need for this chunky guacamole recipe!
- Hass avocados
- Red onion
- Jalapeno peppers
- Fresh garlic
- Lime juice
- Cilantro
- Kosher salt
- Tortilla chips for serving: I love pairing this guacamole with my homemade sea salt and lime tortilla chips!
How to Make This Homemade Guacamole
In a large bowl, add the diced onion, jalapeno peppers, minced garlic, lime juice, and salt. Mix well together and then set aside to macerate for 10 minutes – this process helps release even more flavor and juice from the aromatics and concentrates their flavor.
While the aromatics sit, pit and peel the avocados, and mince the cilantro. Then add the avocados and chopped cilantro into the bowl of aromatics, and use a fork or potato masher to mash the avocado until you get the consistency you prefer for your guacamole. Stir and adjust for salt and lime juice.
Serve the guacamole with tortilla chips, or use it as a topping for tacos, burrito bowls and more. Store any leftover guacamole in an airtight glass jar in the fridge for up to one day. Although it does taste best the same day!! To keep the guacamole from turning brown, I like to squeeze over a bit of lime juice (essentially sealing the guacamole with acid) which prevents oxidation.
